About me

I don’t really like talking about myself but I know that a lot of people want to know who they’re buying from (understandably). I can’t say everything, but hopefully this helps.

Hoshiumi Beauty is AAPI, LGBTQIA+, and ND owned. I have multiple neurodivergencies and education and advocacy for survivors and different ways of thinking are very important to me.

I am also a piano/voice teacher, diviner, and a lover of all music, especially alt rock, kinda metal?/grunge, pop, video game music, small group choir/strings, and EDM. The freakier the bass, the better.

Cats rule! And so do tigers, crows, ravens, whales, dogs, bats, Mongolian horses, opossums, dragons, eagles, etc.

I believe in community, interdependence, coregulation, curiosity, and harmony. I believe in sharing spirits with the spirits, that science and spirituality can coexist, and that we have a lot to learn from Nature. I believe in leaving things a little better than we found them, and also that we need to give ourselves the same grace we give others.

Nail polish got me through the most painful and confusing time of my life and I’m so grateful to share it with others as a source of fun and joy and also as something that can truly help and heal.

The process of painting can help regulate a shaken nervous system, and looking at your sparkly glitter nails can be a subtle stim. Noticing what colors and finishes you’re drawn to can help you figure out what your feelings are. Why do I want to wear pink so much today? Why do I want a chunky glitter? Sometimes it’s Just Because, not everything needs a reason! But sometimes it’s deeper than that, too.

Self-expression isn’t just a trend, it’s part of how we preserve and evolve ourselves and the culture we live in.

And finally: Art alters the subconscious. Showing up as your authentic self changes the world. To me, nails and fashion will never be frivolous.

Hoshi (星) means “star” in Japanese, and Umi (海) means “ocean.” So you can think of Hoshiumi as meaning “starry sea.”
